For the 12th consecutive year, Aardvark Automotive, a full-service, locally owned and operated Amarillo auto repair shop has donated reliable vehicles to deserving families in Amarillo through the Wheels to Prosper initiative.

This year, Aardvark Automotive was able to select two deserving recipients from approximately 50 nominations as winners of the Wheels to Prosper program. The program provides a used vehicle, which has been completely inspected and repaired, by the auto technicians at Aardvark Automotive, along with community partners. The recipients of this year’s vehicles are Tayler Pergrem and Lois Ford.

According to Brandon Anderson, owner of Aardvark Automotive, this year’s vehicle giveaway, held Saturday, December 16, 2023, was a day he’ll always remember.

“Our team at Aardvark Automotive loves participating in Wheels to Prosper. We love reading the nominations, and we feel honored to help some of our neighbors by providing them with reliable transportation that will last for years to come,” he said.

“We are also thankful for the donations of time, products, labor, and service that fellow Amarillo businesses contribute, year after year. This year, Mikey’s Turbo Exchange, Windshields Unlimited, and O’Reilly Auto Parts played a significant role in helping us ensure that the vehicles awarded to Tayler and Lois are safe and reliable.”

The vehicles awarded this year include a 2010 Dodge Caravan. Auto repairs to ensure the vehicle is in excellent working condition, included a rebuild of the transmission, courtesy of Mikey’s Turbo Exchange in Amarillo, which donated all labor time. Many new parts were courtesy of O’Reilly Auto Parts in Amarillo. In total, the Caravan received a new battery, alternator replacement, valve cover gaskets, crankcase breather hose, PVC hose, intake manifold gasket, engine oil pan, new spark plugs, radiator cap, air filters, and more. Aardvark Automotive technicians performed all parts replacements and repairs. The Caravan also received new tires, and a new windshield, which was donated by Windshields Unlimited in Amarillo.

The second vehicle that Aardvark Automotive repaired and awarded is a 2001 Mitsubishi Montero Sport, which received a new battery, oil service, engine flush service, and new parts including a fuel pump, O2 sensor, front and rear brakes, drive belts, front and rear shocks, spark plugs and wires. The Montero also received new wiper blades and new tires. O’Reilly Auto Parts in Amarillo donated automotive parts for the repairs on the Montero.

For Anderson and his team at Aardvark Automotive, the Wheels to Prosper program has become part of the company’s annual holiday tradition. “Gifting our neighbors with safe and reliable transportation each holiday season is one of the highlights of our year. With a safe and reliable vehicle, our fellow Amarillo residents can pursue the job they want, the education they want, the after-school programs their children participate in, and so much more. This program allows us to provide a meaningful gift that makes lives better for others. That’s the Spirit of the Season to us at Aardvark Automotive,” Anderson added.

Aardvark Automotive will celebrate 44 years of serving the Amarillo community in 2024. All auto repairs performed by Aardvark Automotive are backed by a three-month or 3,000-mile guarantee. All parts are backed by a 12-month or 12,000-mile warranty.
