Soshanguve, Gauteng, South Africa - December 1, 2023

Juliette Mfomadi, dedicated Principal and Soshanguve resident, details in a recent short documentary on YouTube, on how she is bringing hope back to the failing youth of South Africa and improving education quality through a very special study technology. She describes how the effective learner support method offered by the Scientology Volunteer Ministers rehabilitates education in the youth of Soshanguve, a programme that has helped many learners improve on their studies and now read for meaning.

Huliette, who is from Soshanguve, describes the many kids dropping out of school in numbers due to study difficulties. “This was a heartbreaking thing for me to see on a daily basis. Our children, our future slowly slipping away because of these barriers to learning. I knew I had to try and play my part and help”, said Juliette.

Disheartened by seeing struggling learners in her community of Soshanguve, Juliette searched for solutions and came across a Learner Support programme offered by the Scientology Volunteer Ministers. After thorough training on the skills offered, she decided to implement this in her community and use her facility as a safe space where learners with learning difficulties could come and receive the support they need. “I couldn’t just stand by idly while the many children in my community lost hope in education. I created a Learner Support Volunteer group to take in these children and help them with their study difficulties and the results are spectacular and beyond expectation,” continued Juliette.

“I decided to use my daycare center to also serve as an afterschool care center that caters to the children in my community who are struggling with barriers to learning. I have been providing Learner Support to great success and I have seen children Read For Meaning for over 8 months,” continued Juliette.

On her journey of tackling learning barriers, Juliette has garnered support from parents in her area who have always been seeking help for their children with barriers to learning. Due to the incredible results she has been obtaining, the community recently came together to celebrate the success of Juliette’s remarkable learner support programme. The recent celebration recognized the achievements of the learners who participated in the learner support programme and improved their literacy level and school results that went from rock bottom to the stars. All the learners are now eager students.

“The transformation is very rewarding. It gives me hope for the future of the kids in Soshanguve,” added Juliette.

One parent, whose child has been attending the afterschool Learner Support programme said, “My son is now one of the top students in his class, serving as class president and a shining example of a dedicated student. I am immensely grateful to the learner programme in Soshanguve. Since my son started attending this, I have seen so much change in him.”

Another mother expressed her joy, “ My daughter now enjoys learning so much that she even attends the programme during school holidays. When I asked her what she wanted to do for the school holidays, she proudly said she is going to be at the afterschool center learning instead of wasting time in the street.”

With a dedicated team of 8 volunteers, Juliette knows she is bringing very positive change in her community. Inspired by the training she received from the Scientology Volunteer Ministers and the practical skills she gained from the training, she is now doing what she wanted and helps learners ‘Read For Meaning’ instead of studying just to pass. “It is a really exciting project for me and my team,” continued Juliette.

On speaking about her recent accomplishments, Juliette said “Education is very important and it is saddening to know that over 80% of learners in the 4th grade cannot ‘Read For Meaning’. Sitting by and hoping the situation will change is not an option. The students that attend my learner support programme walk out of here as independent learners who can resolve barriers to learning and read for meaning. It’s truly remarkable to witness. The Study Technology of L. Ron Hubbard on which the Learner Support Programme is based really works,” concluded proud Juliette.

Juliette remains committed to continue her Learner Support program and even more committed to bring solutions to the learning barriers that plague her community.
