Residents of Cedar Falls charged with federal crimes can now benefit from legal advice and representation from a former Iowa prosecutor.

Marshalltown, United States - January 23, 2024 /NewsNetwork/ —
Attorney Jennifer Frese has announced that she is now accepting clients from Cedar Falls as part of her expansion plan, which was gradually rolled out after opening her private practice. From her office in Marshalltown, she now represents individuals in neighboring areas, which now include Waterloo, Ames, Boone, and Grinnell.

According to Ms. Frese, clients who work with her can benefit from the perspective she offers as a former prosecutor. Owing to her background, she has a better understanding of how US attorneys would approach their case and the tactics they could employ to bring about a conviction.
Ms. Frese explained that persons charged with federal crimes could face harsher sentences than one charged with state crimes, thus requiring legal counsel highly familiar with the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, which she describes as “complicated”.
“These guidelines are used by the Federal Courts to determine the severity of the offense. Several factors will be considered to determine the sentencing range, including one’s criminal history and aggravating factors if there are any,” Ms. Frese said. “As someone who has been on the other side, so to speak, I can give my clients an idea of the strategies the prosecution is most likely to bring to bear and the recourses available to them.”
In her private practice, Ms. Frese represents individuals facing charges for drug trafficking, cybercrime, election law crime, fraud, money laundering, and other types of federal crimes. “While working as a prosecutor, I prosecuted every type of crime from a simple misdemeanor to first-degree murder,” she said.
Her private practice offers free consultations, which can be done virtually or in-person. Ms. Frese advised clients to take advantage of this service and proactively seek counsel as soon as they receive formal communication from a federal law agency that they may be part of an ongoing investigation.
After serving as a prosecutor for seven years, Ms. Frese returned to her hometown of Marshalltown, where she joined a local practice specializing in criminal defense before opening her own private practice. In addition to federal crime defense, she specializes in family law, handling cases involving custody, divorce, and the like.
