Paris, France Jul 17, 2023 (Issuewire.com) - The Palace of Versailles just outside Paris, France is known for all things fancy. Designed by the eccentric French King Louis XIV in the 17th century - the Palace is over-the-top in appearance and its lavish grounds cover 2,000 acres. The Château even has an entire "Hall of Mirrors" where the treaty that ended World War 1 was signed.
And now they are handing out gold?
Not yet, but they will be. Next summer the 2024 Summer Olympics will be held in France and the Palace of Versailles will be used for hosting Olympic Equestrian events. So gold medals will be handed out - and silver and bronze too.
It won't be the only famous French landmark to figure prominently at the Games. The opening ceremony will be held (literally) on the River Seine with an international boat parade ending across from the Eiffel Tower (home of the Beach Volleyball event). Further down the block on the famed Champ des Mars, Wrestling and Judo competitors will be taking to the mats. The Grand Palais will be hosting Taekwondo and Fencing. Roland-Garros stadium - known typically for the French Open - will be the site of Tennis and Boxing. On the Esplanade des Invalides, just a stone's throw from Napoleon's tomb, Archery will be held. And under the Luxor obelisk of the Place de la Concorde (between the Arc de Triomphe & Louvre art museum), several events will be competed for Olympic glory.
With a year left, there's still plenty of time to prepare - or is there?

The 2024 Summer Olympic games kick off on Friday, 27 July 2024 and continue until the Closing Ceremony at the Stade de France on Sunday, 11 August 2024.
