New York City, New York Dec 13, 2022 (Issuewire.com) - A fellowship-trained surgical oncologist, Dr. Calvo-Strube is in practice with Mays Cancer Center, home to UT Health San Antonio MD Anderson Cancer Center.
Her clinical focus is on the surgical management of breast cancer, benign breast disease, and oncoplastic surgery, as well as the management of patients with hereditary predispositions or at high risk for breast cancer. She has a particular clinical interest in caring for women diagnosed with breast cancer at a young age and pregnancy-related breast cancer.
Holding an academic title, she serves as an Assistant Professor with the Division of Surgical Oncology and Endocrine Surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio.
Educated in the United States, Dr. Calvo-Strube graduated with her medical degree from Texas A&M School of Medicine. She then went on to perform her residency in general surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, and her clinical fellowship in breast surgical oncology at UT Southwestern.
With years of experience under her belt, the doctor is board-certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge.
Holding fellowship status, Dr. Calvo-Strube is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS).
Surgical oncology is the branch of surgery applied to oncology. It focuses on the surgical management of tumors, especially cancerous tumors. A surgical oncologist removes the tumor and nearby tissue during surgery. He or she also performs certain types of biopsies to help diagnose cancer.
