The authors of the research paper studied a cohort of over 2 million individuals who received a COVID-19 vaccine in US healthcare facilities. Following a self-controlled risk interval analysis, the study found that the incidence rate ratio of herpes zoster after COVID-19 was 0.91. The assessment for herpes was done 30 days after the first or second COVID-19 vaccine dose. The authors concluded the paper by writing, “These findings suggest COVID-19 vaccination is not associated with an increased risk of herpes zoster, which may help to address concerns about the safety profile of COVID-19 vaccines.”
