Introducing Hilarapy – Healing with Humour, the world’s foremost comedy therapy program. Hilarapy was developed by Lizzie Allan, a professional comedian and a registered therapist with a degree in comedy writing and performance. Lizzie successfully combines group therapy and stand-up comedy techniques to give people a space to work on their ‘stuff’ and tell their stories in a safe and joyful community environment. Her accomplished background in community building, support, and youth empowerment brings a formidable blend of skills to her role as teacher, facilitator, speaker, leader, and performer.

The flagship program includes revolutionary features that reveal a whole new dimension engaging a unique brand of comedy therapy. Hilarapy takes a holistic approach to healing using meditation, visualization, journaling, mindful practices, and other techniques that shape potent new devices to improve mental, emotional, and spiritual health.

Comedy therapy is blossoming across the world and more and more people are engaging these healing practices and discovering ways to create a more positive and vibrant existence while literally changing their world. Hilarapy’s new three-track program combines group therapy and stand-up comedy techniques within a supportive community. These three elements deliver a unique experience elevating conventional treatment modalities beyond therapy alone.

What is Hilarapy? “It’s a made-up word,” explains Allan, a leading teacher in the field of comedy therapy, “A mashup of hilarious therapy. Healing with humor is all about taking risks within a safe and understanding community” she adds. The experience is empowering and life-enriching. “Getting to the bottom of what’s driving stress, anxiety, and depression, will help you to change thinking patterns and beliefs that are no longer serving you,” observes Allan.

“I wanted to build a healthy, non-competitive comedy therapy community. Hilarapy is that community. Behind the scenes, we are supporters and cheerleaders. Behind our humor are tears, doubts, and struggles shared. Comedy gives us the power to shift perceptions and misconceptions, address stereotypes and assumptions, break down invisible barriers, end repetitive stigma patterns, and create an opening in the hearts of others.” Community is the cornerstone to wellbeing and Hilarapy harnesses the real power of comedy to inspire change in the world.

“This was just the most amazing experience because suddenly I was surrounded by people who understood my mental health issues, which a lot of people don’t,” says Carolyn B., a Hilarapy member.

Hilarapy offers a Free 60-minute Comedy Therapy Class – Using the Power of Therapeutic Comedy to Change Your World. Profound life-changing experiences occur when combining comedy and group therapy. With the Hilarapy Online Comedy Therapy Program, participants acquire and learn to use potent new tools and develop active listening and powerful sharing skills to help them build confidence, increase self-acceptance and self-worth, and overcome life’s anxieties.

“I learned how to be vulnerable and open to discovering my true self, warts and all. It’s a great experience and I benefit from it in ways I never expected,” says Sheryl S., another Hilarapy member.

“Being alive is complicated and messy; it’s only when we own our stories that we truly embrace our shared humanity,” states Allan. “I created Hilarapy to empower the individual through the group experience,” she explains. “Walking a path of creative growth together with others has given me permission to show up in the big, juicy fullness of being human and I invite you to start owning your stories and begin living your fullest life.”

Hilarapy also announced weekly and free, Live Q&A and Information Sessions on Zoom every Tuesday at 6:30 PM PT with Hilarapy founder and visionary, Lizzie Allan, in a sincere effort to welcome the curious and answer questions.

“Hilarapy creates a place for people to embrace who they are as individuals and share themselves in a healthy, supportive environment,” describes world recognized therapeutic comedian, Allan. “Being vulnerable has power; it has impact and value. This is a vibrant and growing global ecosystem that is core to the human experience.”
