Beginning her higher education at Arizona State University, Dr. Rhodes received her Bachelor of Science degree in Finance. After completing her undergraduate studies, she went on to earn her Doctor of Optometry degree at the esteemed Southern California College of Optometry in Fullerton, and has been working as an optometrist ever since.
Having been around the eyecare industry for most of her life, Dr. Rhodes was introduced to optometry through her mother, who was an optician for 50 years before retiring. She worked for a contact lens distributor and as an optician for a local ophthalmology group while completing her bachelor's degree. These experiences led her to become an optometrist.
For the past two decades, Dr. Rhodes has enjoyed caring for her patients as if they are family members. She opened a private practice in Sisters, Oregon where she lived for many years. About 10 years ago, she moved back to the valley to continue her passion. She had been practicing at a well-known ophthalmology practice with multiple locations throughout the valley during this time. Through these experiences, she encountered a vast array of eye care conditions and treatments, and served as an investigator in numerous clinical studies for eye care treatments.
Undergoing continuous training to stay up to date on the latest technology in services and products in optometry, Dr. Rhodes is an active member of the Arizona Optometric Association.
Optometry is a healthcare profession that involves examining the eyes and applicable visual systems for defects or abnormalities, as well as diagnosing and managing eye disease. Optometrists are healthcare professionals who provide primary eye care through comprehensive eye examinations to detect and treat various visual abnormalities and eye diseases. Being a regulated profession, an optometrist's scope of practice may differ depending on the location. Thus, disorders or diseases detected outside the treatment scope of optometry (i.e. those requiring certain surgical interventions) are referred out to relevant medical professionals for proper care, more commonly to ophthalmologists who are physicians that specialize in the tertiary medical and surgical care of the eye. Optometrists typically work closely together with other eye care professionals, such as ophthalmologists and opticians, to deliver quality and efficient eye care to the general public.
