Marshall is a medical oncologist who cares for patients with breast and lung cancer using chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy. Throughout her career, Marshall has been helping patients participate in clinical trials to evaluate cancer treatments, starting at Yale-New Haven Hospital as a fellow and faculty member in the breast care unit and stem cell transplantation program, and later working in New Mexico and California in community oncology (which seeks to provide quality cancer care close to where patients live) and private practice. At New Mexico Cancer Center for more than a decade, she ran the state's only program that conducted autologous stem cell transplantation (replacing diseased or damaged cells with healthy blood stem cells from the patient).

A graduate of the University of Texas Medical Branch, Dr. Marshall completed both an internship and fellowship at the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She also completed another fellowship at Yale-New Haven Hospital in New Haven, Connecticut.
Dr. Marshall is board-certified in Medical Oncology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
Dr. Marshall maintains professional memberships with the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Association, and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
Oncology is a branch of medicine that deals with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. Dr. Marshall has published several publications in the field of medical oncology and speaks around the world on her expertise; acting as a guest lecturer and conducting grand rounds.
