Pro-Pesticide Lobby Pushes Bill to Prevent States from Restricting Pesticides

Oct 13, 2023

Californians are urged to voice their displeasure with local representatives now.

Los Angeles, CA, California, United States - October 13, 2023 —

Los Angeles, CA -  National law firm Nadrich & Cohen LLP reports that the Agricultural Labeling Uniformity Act aims to prevent states from requiring protections on toxic pesticides that aren’t regulated by the federal government.

A Bill that could increase cancer risks for consumers in California and beyond

The act would prevent states from tailoring laws more restrictive than requirements set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Many of these local laws aim to protect vulnerable populations such as schoolchildren and farm workers.

Since the EPA — in contrast to the World Health Organization and other organizations — concluded that glyphosate is not a human carcinogen, this bill would prevent states from requiring cancer warnings on products such as Roundup.

"I am opposed to passage of the Agricultural Labeling Uniformity Act,” says Jeffrey Nadrich, lead partner for Nadrich & Cohen. “For the protection of its citizens, a state should have the right to enact more stringent standards than those adopted by federal agencies.”

“It is my opinion that federal standards in regards to such matters serve as a floor not a ceiling. In many instances, states should be able to adopt regulatory standards above their federal counterparts."

To prevent this bill from being passed, residents are advised to contact their local representatives and voice their dissent. The lawyers at Nadrich & Cohen believe it’s important to keep local pesticide regulations in place to protect the safety of the community.

Anyone who believes that Roundup or other pesticides might have caused cancer in themselves or a loved one should not hesitate to contact Nadrich & Cohen. Individuals who are unsure whether they have a case can contact the highly experienced law firm for a free case evaluation. The law firm works on a contingency basis, meaning they only get paid if the claimant receives financial compensation from their case.
