The clinic will provide root canal treatment across the course of multiple appointments. The diagnosis appointment includes an x-ray, tests and potentially the patient will be offered a course of antibiotics to calm inflamed tissue prior to treatment.
The next three appointments consist of the treatment. Firstly the dental pulp is accessed by drilling into the tooth and the affected nerves and vessels removed, before an antibiotic is placed in the empty tooth chamber.
After two to three weeks of settling time, the chamber is cleaned, shaped and sterilized before being sealed with a permanent filling. The crown of the tooth is then restored and a crown of ceramic or porcelain will be used.
