Charles Barberio helped his client receive a "not guilty" verdict in a murder trial. This case involved an argument between two men that turned violent.
St. Louis, United States - February 20, 2018 /PressCable/ —
Saint Louis, MO (February, 2018) – The law offices of Charles Barberio would like to announce the “Not Guilty” verdict rendered for the December fourteenth murder case of Jamal M. Clay. Clay, 24, was accused of second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the death of Wesley Hughes. The two had an argument over an alleged marijuana deal, and it escalated into a physical altercation. Clay testified that Hughes attacked him and pulled him to the ground by his dreadlocks and there was a “wrestling match” over Clay’s firearm. Clay testified that he shot Hughes twice in his torso in an act of self defense. The jury deliberated on this information for roughly two hours, then found Clay to be not guilty.
The argument and altercation occurred in Spanish Lake on May 30th, 2016. The exact location was the Schnucks parking lot in the Sierra Vista Plaza, north of Interstate 270 along Bellefontaine Road. Police arrested Clay two hours later in an apartment after he ran from the scene.
According to Clay’s attorney, Barberio, police and prosecutors made Clay out to be a “young black man up to no good, and I think the jury saw through what he was accused of.”
